No Blacks, No Gays, No Irish

Now before you get your back up, that title is a reference to a great book by Johnny Rotten and for me to explain it's significance you have to read the book. It also has reference to something I chose to do a long time ago.

I never .....ever...ever perform to all one type of crowd. I don't want to perform to all men...all women...all little people...all star trek convention nerds.....none of them period. In the past I have done these kinds of shows and I die a horrible death everytime. I think it is because I need a certain mix of corwd for people to understand that I am trying to make them laugh. I don't know for sure and have done no scientific research but that is the theory I have to go with. When I walk into a room I have to write off 25 per cent of the crowd off the top cause they will not get it. What happens if that group is white men in their 30's and that is the whole crowd I am fucked.

My show sometimes becomes a me against them kinda mentallity, and they are already a group that relate on one level or share a heritage or life experience. It takes a normal crowd some time to band together and look at each other and say "I am not going to sit here and let this little garden gnome fuck scream at me...Lets get him"

Now I give props to comics that can perform to these crowds...I just can't do it. Especially gay crowds. Now before you ring the gaydar alarm and meet in boys town with your torches let me explain. I do many short sets in gaytown where the crowd is mixed but slightly more gay then normal, and I do well. Also I have always supported gay rights so if that is not enough go fuck each other.

After a show a gay fellow came up to me and spoke to me and said something very interesting. It was a benefit for a gay comic I really liked that died. That is the reason I went against what I knew I should have done...just give a lot of cash and not do the show. The crowd hated me and I just tryed to play nice and get off. Anywhooo...the guy said that he thought that maybe the one reason I don't do well with gay crowds is cause I am too aggressive and gay people are already fighting alot of aggression from straight canada/usa. When they go out, they don't want to see a straight guy screaming at them. I thought about it and said to myself..finally a reason I can understand and get behind, why to hate my act.

That was the last show I did for a gay crowd but I am glad that I did it..cause it sure opened my eyes.

motorin.....what's your price for flight...in finding mr right
