I will pay you a hundred dollars
If you ever ever see one of my shows and I am not giving 100 per cent then I will refund your money and give you a hundred dollars.
In the last few months because people are misreading what I am saying and I am getting a little bit of flack. Let me explain
Recently I have been doing interviews stating that I don't care what the audience thinks and that I am there to do what I do and I am not going to pander at club shows. I do what I want when I want at these club shows and that is the deal. I am going to try and get the audience to where I want them to go, not for them to take me where they want to go.
Now since I have made that statement people have been either emailing me or commenting on blogs that People work hard to make the money to come out and see shows blah blah blah.
Have I ever said that people don't work hard. Do I think that it is expensive for a night out once you factor in babysitting and drinks etc. It is not my fault that the club or venue has not advertised properly or let you know what the show is.
If you ever see one of my shows even when I am bombing I am giving 100 per cent. I rarely go on autopilot. I would love to say never but due to sickness or stress (just like anyone else) it happens but very very rarely with me.
I am one of the few comics that does not rip off fans.
Do you know you can mass produce a cd for less then 2 dollars...that is everything..printing burning etc. If you order in more then a thousand you can get it down to 1.50. Even cheaper if you do it with your own computer. Some comics charge 20 bucks to hear them suck.
I ordered 500 of my cds and have given away more then half to fans or media outlets. My rule is for every one i sell I can give 4 away and still break even. When you buy my cd I tell people to burn it and give it to friends.
I have given away over 50 cds of the one set in windsor where the crowd hated me and I was on fire. I could have charged for that but I gave it away for free to anyone who emailed. I even paid for the postage.
I have given more then 40 dvds of a bootleg set from ottawa I recorded in sept. Mainly to fans who have emailed.
Now why do I do this. Well part of it is to get my name out there for sure but i have to admit most of it is cause I realize you have worked hard to come and see my show....you put the time in and made a choice to come there and I appreciate that. Now whether you liked the show or not, I cannot control that but i can control you get value for your money.
good luck getting that kinda commitment from other comics who just want to use this to get laid or make more beer money

I was on the receiving end of one of the FREE DVD's, and I have to say, its F-ing RARE that anyone who could possibly CHARGE COLD HARD CASH FOR SOMETHING-- didn't.
Its plain to see that its not all about dollar signs for you, and thats RARE. This world is just full of dumb people, thats the bottom line. If someone doesn't like you, then Congratulate them, and tell them they officially SUCK.
Keep making people pee (out of laughter of course....!!) Darren, you're damn good at it. Hopefully when you get some free time, there will be a Dec, Jan, Feb roASter posted~!

I asked Darren to do a small show I produced in a shitty room, in front of a shitty crowd,and he brought his "A" game. He ALWAYS does.
I have seen him perform in Montreal for 600 people and I have seen him perform for 30 people in a cramped, hot, run down attic. The same effort.
Would you tell a jazz musician he wasn't trying hard enough if a room full of Metallica fans weren't impressed? Would you tell Winton Marsallis to play Enter Sandman, because that is what the audience wants to hear?
Not everybody likes jazz, and not everybody likes Darren, but he is one of the best anywhere at what he does.
The people that do like Darren's show, love it, because he brings it everytime.
Fuck you if you don't get it.

I am middling the Dark Shows with Darren and have seen him go on all cylinders. Like you point out Andrew, he does it every time.
When you open for someone like this it makes you turn up your game as well. Otherwise, you will look like a slacking turd.
What I'm trying to say is that when you do a show with a comic that you know is going to go all out it makes the other people on the show want to work harder too and then the audience gets a better show. Or something like that.
