The prize is different to many people.
The end result is always the same
So I just did a weekend in the mountains in canmore alberta. Canmore is a nice little town that could. A small growing festival that wants to have a party atmosphere and provide laughs to the peeps.
I was amazed at how drunk some of the comics were by the end of the shows. Some were drunk before the show started. I am not going to name names for this one cause they are good guys and good comics but I was shocked how drunk they got. To me I was there for the shows first and the atmosphere second. Once again I had to realize...people are motivated by different monkeys on their backs.
I have never mixed bus with pleasure and maybe that is wrong and maybe there is a happy balance. I just couldn't travel all that way and not get something out of it. To me the best 2-4 is a new five minutes.
Some need the alcohol..some need the love of a crowd........some take this job too serious and some not enough.

I, like you, am one that does not like to have alcohol before a show. I was a bit surprised at the amount of booze that was given to the comics PRIOR to the shows.
It is nice to have a few free wobbly pops after but not before. When a comic is stumbling drunk is it still art?
I finally got to see you do your full nasty show and I can honestly say that i would rather watch your stage venom and jokes with you sober as the act has more meaning. If you were to do it drunk I would think it was just the booze talking and your message would be lost. It was treat to watch. Well done.
Yes I got hammered a few times that week but it was always AFTER the shows. I was having fun partying with comic buddies. That is part of the fun of a fest.
I am not sure how some of these guys did it drunk and seem to do it like that often. Eventually one has to let go of the alcohol crutch as you can't do a tour sloshed every night.
You have a professional attitude. We need more like that.

I respect what Darren does, even though I am a more of a fan of other styles of comedy. I can see the demographics he is going for and he is doing very well at it.
Do I need his approval or his love? No. I can live without it.
He can choose to be a friend or a business aquaintance.
You can continue being a hit and run hack. Enjoy it.
