It's just a handshake darren

Some call me an elitist.
Others just think I am a drama queen.
I am both my friends.

Let me explain, last week I was headlining a club and the middle act was getting heckled by this guy in the audience. It went back and forth for far too long but eventually the comic was able to go back to his material. After his set the guy wanted to go up to the comic and have some words. So the guy sticks his hand out and wants to shake the comics hand which the comic decided not to do. The heckler is upset and gets more pissed off.

This scenario has happened to me far too many times..most recently in windsor where I tried to kick the window out of the venue and jump to my death. After the show the guys who fukced it wanted to shake my hand. The difference between me and the other comic is this has happend hundreds of times for me. I am not so nice about it.

That is the beauty of being a hired gun and not a worker for the company. I am not shaking anyones hand that I feel doesn't get my respect. To me that is condoning his behavior and I would rather fight then do that. I have shaked the hands of the people who were with the guy while they apoligized for such behavior.

Never the guy....Fuck that....

It is bad enough I have to perform for a bunch of monkeys that are not willing to make an intellectual jump across a puddle of piss but to have to act like it is all alright. Lets see how this is wrong

Get up in the morning and worry about the show. Eat lunch worry about the show. Work on act in the afternoon to try and make sure the show goes well. Go to show early to watch the whole show so I don't miss anything. Try and monkey dance for 45-60 minutes. Halfway through heckled and audience doesn't care they are getting ripped off...or better yet agree with heckler. I say horrible things to horrible people. Repeat three more times

Gee I wonder why I am not into kissin babies and shaking hands.

There is a growing lack of respect for standup and as much as I want to blame larry the cable guy for dumbing the artform down you have to sometimes blame the audience. Not just the hecklers but the audience that doesn't side with the comic while it is happening. Why won't people standup and say shit anymore. If I was in a restaurant and saw a person being brutal to a waiter and thought it was uncalled for I would say something. Hecklers are just older bullies and we all know how to handle them.

"People won't stand on a burning bag of shit anymore"

if someone was getting killed out there by a heckler, I wouldn't laugh. I'd tell him to "GO HOME." Same thing for a waiter getting ragged on, etc. I witnessed this just a few weeks back...at a convenience store, a nice girl had just bought a phone card, and it was defective. She came back and asked nicely for a new one (there was no pin # when she scratched the calling card, clearly not her fault.) The woman behind the counter, did nothing but curse and carry on in her "native language" was COMPLETELY OUT OF LINE!!! I stepped in and told her to stop being a jackass to this customer, and its not her fault that the card doesn't have a proper pin # on it to even use... Then she started throwing things at the customer, and screaming more obscenities in her "language." I continued to argue w/ her, the customer with the bum phone card was afraid she was going to get hurt. I didn't care... I told this evil woman from god knows where that she doesn't need to be rude, she just needs to give this poor girl a new card. Or her FIVE DOLLARS back. All that for 5 damn dollars...

People in this world are definitely F#*D. Thats the bottom line... Everyone has an attitude problem, everyone is just out to be a selfish asshole...

What happened to all the warm fuzzies???????

Hecklers are low grade comic wannabes with a huge "look at me" syndrome.
I find the best way to get the audience on side is to repeat what the heckler said. Often certain corners of the room can't hear the shithead heckle so repeating it often helps. Once they know why you have stopped the show they should be on your side. If not...fuck 'em and attack. They earned it and no one attacks like you Frosty!!
I agree on the not shaking hands with them. I am the same way unless they apologize but I turn away quickly and give my attention to someone else that is more deserving.

Frosty,
I was glad you were there that night. It was the first time I ever decided not to shake hands with a patron. And it felt great.
