What are you lookin at?

Dear CCA

So it is that time again for everyone to start talking in alley ways and back of comedy clubs in hushed tones. The lineups were announced and the lineup was pretty standard.

People ask me why i am so hard on the industry. That I should just be happy with my own jokes but if everyone did that then thiefs would run the world...oh wait they already do.

The problem for me is two fold when it comes to your comedy awards.

One:

The people who judge and pick the winner is a group comprised of comedians and actors. Well the actors far out weigh the comedians. What the fuck do actors know about standup comedy. The first year the best comic was ron james. Now I have nothing but respect for ron and what he has done in canadian comedy but this is not the most respect award. The main reason he won is cause he is known by actors as an actor first and comic second. Most actors did not know the other comics by name so there you go. Until the voting is done by just comics or the comedy industry only this is not a real award.

Now before you get on me and say I am bitter that I have never been nominated lets get one thing straight. I am not in the top five funniest comics in the country. Ask around .....Did you hear me there..I am not in the top ten even when it comes to comedy. So when I say this shit it is not bitterness but reality. Tons of comics look at the list and laugh at a few of the entries...snicker and then repeat. I just chose to be honest and say it out loud. Why would I want an award that I don't respect. I have said from stage many times in the alternative rooms that i would not even accept a nomination cause this is not an award based on talent.

I have always said that the canadian comedy awards have the right intentions but poor execution. This is the first year that most of the standups make sense.

Two:

I also laugh at all the comics that trash the awards and then as soon as they are nominated or win one they are on Enow sucking the comedy awards cock. Some comics just kinda shrug the whole thing off and that is fine. Some comics go "I am just going to go for the party" and I understand that as well. Some comics are truly touched and happy to accept the award and that is cool with me too. We all know how hard it is to stay in this business and a little ego boost from time to time is nice.

All I am saying is that if you don't like something or trash it ..stay with it. Accept the award and don't take it so serious.

People tell me that your show is getting better each year and I think that is great. Just raise the bar when it comes to the system of giving out such awards.

I look forward to the year that there is this great party and awards given out correctly.
