What are you lookin at?

So I arrived in vancouver and at the hotel by 7. Showered and on the road to do shows by 8. All in all I did three shows to varying degrees of success. One show there was a comic in the front row who talked to a table while I was on. The comic also went on earlier. We all know how i feel about that.

The last time I was in vancouver I was very impressed with the level of comedy in this town. So I looked forward to doing the open mike scene. The only difference now from toronto and vancouver is the number of good open mikes that are available to try new material and be heard by a real audience. Vancouver is still stumbling with that but the talent is there.

I think that if I was a comic here, it would really bother me. For years many comics moved out east cause they knew to get better you have to do rooms where you can be heard and appreciated. I have not seen all the rooms in town but from speaking to comics I hope the next time I come to town that there are four strong rooms for comics to grow.

In the arly afternoon i went and did an interview on talk radio and pushed my version of comedy. We used the whole freedom of speech angle and of course that works on talk radio. I received a few emails about some videos on you tube. One was from a video called Baby. The video is now gone but i will explain that in a minute. The story is a brutal one that was reported by the tradional media and I just commented on it and tried to make a sick joke on the back of it. This was a joke I did at the rivoli on alternative mondays to a crowd that expects darker comedy. This one guy hated the video and said

There must be more intelligent approaches to getting a laugh. This guy just can't think of them. I guess darren that you've decided that this is your "style".
X rated comedy? OK..Some people enjoy gawking at a nasty car accident too..It's that inexplicable fascination some
people have...Like your fans!

I heard you on the radio in a Vancouver interview. Really wanted to like your "material" I'm not a whimp. I can handle Chris rock etc...Everybody has their "thing" I guess...Perhaps this is why you entertain drinkers in
bars...Not ready for prime time??


I signed back and gave some context and said that people in the audience laughed. Some people laughed and some didn't the same as larry the cable guy.

So I wanted to go in and change some of the info on the video to give it context but I accidently deleted the video. It is on my second dvd so if anyone wants it i can rip it again. To be honest there are a few videos I wanted to take down for awhile now cause they are either too low quality or just news pieces that are too old. I was planning on taking baby done and a few others after this tour.

Well we can thank that one guy who went and voiced his opinion and changed the world....now the world is free of baby death jokes
